SITAC XV: The End will explore the successive “deaths” of the image and the representations of violence. The fifteenth edition of the International Symposium of Theory on Contemporary Art (SITAC), which coincides with the 20th anniversary of this meeting, has as guest directors the curator and filmmaker Jesse Lerner and the artist Rubén Ortiz Torres and will be titled The End | The end.

 

The title of this edition alludes, on the one hand, to the successive declarations of death that have been made of the means of image and representation production such as painting, photography and cinema. In that sense, the reflection on these technologies and their possibilities will extend to video and digital image. On the other hand, the relationships between the forms of image production and the different forms of violence in the current era will be explored: from the use of these media by those who commit crimes, through the role of the media, to the way in which digital technologies have mediated our forms of representation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
